Rupert L.

Rupert L. was assigned in the First World War to the Ammunition Convoy 1/14 and took part with this unit in the military operations against the Russian Army. A farmer from Göming, he wrote numerous forces letters to his wife Monika until his discharge in November 1917, owing to unfitness for duty; however he revealed little about his experiences on the front. The topics were far more the worry about their children and especially about Monika herself, who was left alone to see to the family’s farm. In contrast, Rupert L’s diary notes from these years draw a different picture. Day by day we see the reality of the war being exposed in all its brutality.
