Person

Fritz Ortlieb

Fritz Ortlieb served as a soldier with the Imperial-Royal Infantry Regiment No. 74 during the First World War and was involved in fighting enemy armies on the Eastern Front, also in Italy and Slovenia. A comprehensive photograph album testifies to his everyday activities in the theatre of war, sectioned into “Eastern Combat Zone” and “Southern Combat Zone”. The latter, especially the section on the Italian Front, contains pictures of destroyed buildings, fallen soldiers and even the photograph of a hanged “traitor”. After the end of the war Fritz Ortlieb took over his parents’ spice trading business in Vienna.
