“The Royal Castle in Ofen”, photograph around 1900
The Royal Castle in Ofen (in Hungarian: Buda) with its impressive position high above the city. The castle was considerably enlarged following the Austro-Hungarian Compromise of 1867 as a symbol for Hungary's new status. Franz Joseph used the palace as official residence when visiting the Hungarian capital in his function as King of Hungary.
