Norbert Neuber

During the First World War Norbert Neuber – lieutenant in the Imperial-Royal Navy – was a crew member of the battleship “Kaiser Karl VI”. Born in Wiener Neustadt, Neuber kept a comprehensive diary describing the physical exertions of everyday routine but also the comradeship on board ship. Fighting the opposing powers and other dangerous situations also have a place in his notes – for instance the voyage through the areas controlled by the French fleet before the Dalmatian coast, which caused the ship chaplain to give absolution to the crew. Norbert Neuber left the “Kaiser Karl VI” in spring 1915. After the end of the war he resumed his job as district forester.
